WHAT EVERY CARER NEEDS TO KNOW ABOUT SAFEGUARDING Safeguarding goes beyond recognising abuse. It’s about knowing when something isn’t right and taking action to protect those in your care. Here are three things to remember: Recognise the signs: Abuse isn’t always visible. Unusual behaviour, unexplained injuries, financial exploitation, or neglected care needs can be warning signs. Record the facts: Document what you observe, what was said, when it happened, and the action taken. Keep records clear, factual, and free from assumptions. Speak up, don’t assume: Report concerns promptly through the appropriate safeguarding procedures. You don’t need to prove abuse has occurred before raising a concern. Remember: Your awareness could make a difference. Your actions could protect a life. Every person deserves to feel safe. #careloopcommunity

This is correct. I believe safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, and sometimes the smallest detail we notice can make the biggest difference. As carers, we must never ignore our instincts or assume someone else will speak up. Every concern deserves to be taken seriously, because protecting people starts with being observant, compassionate, and willing to act.
